Ian and Viv Roberts celebrated their joint 50th birthdays on Saturday 14th November 2009 at their home in Muswell Hill, London

Roastmaster contracted a trusted supplier, Complete Events to erect a carpeted, hard floor marquee in the garden which stood firm in the very challenging gale-force, wet conditions. The marquee housed 8 round tables, clothed in white linen with purple and pink voile overlays and scattered with scented tea lights. Each table had a modest floral centre created by Viv and was lit with a single dimmed spot from the apex of the lined marquee.

Guests were invited from 19.30 and were welcomed with a cold glass of fine champagne and an hour of chatter. Once seated in the cosy, heated marquee, guests were called to the buffet of a much anticipated hearty feast of our delicious spit-roasted British lamb, basted with regular lashings of a homemade gremolata of extra virgin olive oil, fresh rosemary, garlic, lemon juice and cracked black peppercorns. Our renowned roasted roots, seasoned with flaked sea salt and fresh herbs, sizzled away in the dripping until served piping hot whilst three Roastmaster salads and fresh stone baked Italian breads completed the beautifully decorated buffet.

A trio of Eton Mess, white and dark chocolate profiteroles and our own recipe of chilled, chargrilled pineapple with a splash of Malibu and fresh mint topped with a dollop of whipped cream and smashed crunchie were the chosen desserts and were served at the tables by our slick and friendly waiting staff.

Speeches followed by fireworks provided lots of laughter and wows between courses. After which the bar became very popular, offering special ales and a variety of rare, single malt whiskies as well as tea and fresh coffee with petit fours.

By Monday afternoon, the Roberts family could see their garden just as it was less than a week ago and all that remained were lasting memories of good fun and laughter with treasured friends and family.
